How To Purify Water At Home

Water contains so many contaminants, chlorine, dirt particles, organic and inorganic substances. Water also contains some germs, microorganisms like bacteria, and little amounts of toxic metals like lead, mercury, arsenic because of water pollution. So we need to purify water before drinking because it is vital for health. Water purification not only removes different contaminants from water but also makes it tasty and pleasant in appearance. 

Methods to purify water at home:

There are so many sufficient methods to purify water at home. I am going to explain very effective and easy ways out of them.

Boiling

This is a very basic and simplest way to purify tap water at home. Boiling kills all the germs, bacteria, and different microorganisms present in water at specific heat temperatures.

Things you will need:

  • Pot

Procedure:

Following are the steps to Boiling water.

Step 1

Fill a pot with water and set it over the fire stove.

Step 2

Now let it boil for 10 minutes but at higher elevations keep water boiling for a longer time.

Step 3

After water gets boiled, let it cool at room temperature before drinking.

Filtration

It is also very easy and efficient for water purification because they eliminate all the contaminants and impurities from water.

Tip 1

In this process, we use electrical filters fitted in our homes.

We just need to filter and water becomes purified through filters.

Basically, this process is not physical but used effectively at home nowadays.

Bleach

Bleach is a chemical and it may seem dangerous to you. But it’s a good purification chemical. 

Things you will need:

  • 1 Gallon Water Bottle

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with Bleach.

Step 1

just have to add household bleach to your water gallon.

Step 2

And your water becomes purified.

Alert!

But one should stay very careful during adding bleach and stay specific with the number of bleach drops.

Add 8 drops of bleach in one gallon of water if your bleach contains almost 4 to 6 % chlorine.

Add 40 drops of bleach in one gallon of water if your bleach contains 1 % chlorine.

Add 4 drops of chlorine in one gallon of water if your bleach contains 7 to 10 % chlorine.

Iodine

To purify water with help of iodine we can either use iodine in liquid solution form or iodine tablets.

Things you will need:

  • Lugol’s Solution of Iodine

  • Water Purification Tablets

Procedure:

Following are the some Method about Iodine.

Liquid iodine

Just like chlorine, iodine is also a chemical but it is used for water purification for short-term use. Add 5 drops of 2 % iodine solution for one-liter water. But if the water is cloudy then add almost 10 drops of 2 % iodine liquid solution per liter of water.

Iodine tablets

Almost use two tablets of iodine per liter of water. Now let the tablet settle down and dissolve in water for almost 30 minutes. Shake water thoroughly before drinking water. Iodine may add a bitter taste in water but we can additives like lemon juice, lemonade powder, and also vitamin C in water to remove the bitterness of iodine from water.

Non-chemical Stabilized Oxygen

Stabilized oxygen is a natural antibiotic available in the market. You just need of Stabilized Liquid Oxygen. This is the quickest way. So you can also use this method in the emergence and outdoors because after this method you can consume water immediately.

Things you will need:

  • Stabilized Liquid Oxygen

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with Non-chemical Stabilized Oxygen.

Step 1

You just need to add a few drops of Stabilized Liquid Oxygen in a water bottle and your water becomes purified. This is the quickest way.

Straining

To remove large particles contaminants from the water we can strain the water with a piece of soft cotton, clean soft towel, cheesecloth, and even muslin. .

Things you will need:

  • Pot

  • Soft Cotton

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with Straining.

Step 1

Place the cloth all over your pot and pass the water gently from the strainer.

Step 2

The contaminants stay on the strainer while purified water will be collected in a pot.

Now you can use this water

SODIS Method

This method is very similar to solar water disinfection. It is effective to kill germs, bacteria, and pathogens. In this method, we use lightweight and transparent plastic bottles.

Things you will need:

  • Transparent Plastic Bottles

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with SODIS Method.

Step 1

Pour water into bottles and . The UV radiations kill germs, bacteria, and other microorganisms

place them for six hours direct into the sunlight .

Pine tree leaves

Pine trees work very effectively to remove pathogens from water.

Things you will need:

  • Pine tree

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with Pine tree leaves.

Step 1

Simply you have to pick a small branch of a pine tree and wash these leaves thoroughly with water.

Step 2

After washing, add these leaves to water and all the pathogens from the water will trap into pine tree leaves.

Now your water becomes purify against pathogens

Cilantro tree leaves

Just like pine trees, cilantro tree leaves are very efficient to remove toxic and heavy metals like lead and Nickle from water.

Things you will need:

  • Cilantro tree

Procedure:

Following are the steps to purify water with Cilantro tree leaves.

Step 1

Pick a small branch of cilantro and separate the leaves from that branch.

Step 2

Now add almost a handful of cilantro leaves into water and stir them.

Step 3

Let the leaves settle down in the water for about one hour. The leaves will absorb heavy metals from water and after one hour strain them out.

So by using this simple and easiest way we can purify water instantly to drink and for other water purposes. You don’t need to be worried to fit costly filters for water purification. Just use this effective method and drink healthy water.
