Filter Water Vs. Boiled Water

Have you known that the human body is consisting of 60% of water? And it loses throughout a day by means of different activities. So, your body needs to consume plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

Health experts encourage people to at least drink 2 liters of water a day but what if it is impure water? Obviously, it’s useless for your body. Nobody wants to drink bad quality water that rather benefits damages their health.

Despite jumping directly to bottled water, you can use plenty of techniques to treat your tap water and make it ultra-pure drinking water. Yes, IT’S true. Through boiling and filtering.

First of all, to select the right technique, it is helpful to get a basic TDS test done to understand the quality of supplied water and the number of present impurities in the water.

What is impure water?

Tap water that comes from diverse sources such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, travels miles through pipes accumulating dirt, chemicals, and other contaminants.  When it reaches your tap, it ended up with different bacteria as well.  This solely provides sufficient reasons to decontaminate water to drink. Let see the methods of purifying and the differences in their effectiveness

Boiling Water

Boiling water is an ancient and most used household way of disinfecting impurities from water. In this method, the heat removes the destructive bacteria but unfortunately, the physical contaminants such as dust particles and toxin chemicals remain there. Even during boiling the concentration of the total dissolved solids increases as the water evaporates on heat making it less pure.

How To Boil Water

  • If your tap water contains cloudiness, then let it pass through a paper towel or let it settle then put the water in the pan and heat it at least for 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Allow the water to cool according to a desirable temperature, store it in clean bottles and use it in 24 hrs to save from recontamination.

Advantages\ Disadvantages Of Boiling Water

Advantages

As boiling the water kills only bacteria and dangerous microorganisms, and the beneficial minerals remain present in the water. Boiling disinfects the harmful pollutants and removes the majority of the chlorine from the water through evaporation. Also drinking warm water aids in many ways to your body such as in good digestion and enhancing blood circulation.

Disadvantages

The process of boiling requires time and energy. It looks cost-effective but actually quite expensive. Boiling water will drastically increase your energy bill. Another drawback of this method is its time consumption. First, you have to wait for several minutes to get water to boil and then allow it to chill unless you get your desired temperature.

Moreover, Boiling tap water not only removes lead but also concentrates it that can be more dangerous for your health. Most people believe that the water is decontaminated when it starts to boil, but it’s not true. For thorough disinfection by heat, you need to boil water for about 20 continuous minutes.

Filtering Water

Boiling water is an ancient and most used household way of disinfecting impurities from water. In this method, the heat removes the destructive bacteria but unfortunately, the physical contaminants such as dust particles and toxin chemical remain there. Even during boiling the concentration of the total dissolved solids increases as the water evaporates on heat making it less pure.

How To Filter Water

  • There are varieties of systems that are available in the market and can be fit for a whole house, for a single tap, or for a commercial purpose. The most recommended among all is the Reverse Osmosis (RO) System. This is the safest advanced technology of water filtration that guarantees high-grade contaminant reduction with the convenience of lifting a faucet handle or a tap of a button.
  • The system includes a sediment filter for removing suspended solids from water such as sand, dust, and debris. Activated carbons filter to remove unpleasant odour and taste. After these two stages in the Reverse Osmosis system, there is a RO membrane that eliminates the remaining TDS from water. But in other water filtration systems, there is an advanced UV sterilizer to disinfect bacteria and after this, you don’t need to boil water for more disinfection.

Advantages\ Disadvantages Of Filtering Water

Advantages

The water filtration system is a fast process with undeniable benefits that allows you to enjoy fresh, tasteful and pure water. Generally, this system is certified with NSF based on its impurity reduction abilities and filter stages. The water filtration process eradicates the components of hard water such as calcium and magnesium, so it will be better for your healthier body, skin and hair, laundry and your home appliances.

Disadvantages

There are no such health drawbacks of purifying tap water, irrespective of the system installation process which sometimes require a professional and the price of filter cartridge replacements in future.

Difference Between Filtered Water Vs Boiled Water

It is factual that filtering water removes the majority of the contaminants. Both are alternatives to bottled water. Whether you filter or boil water at home.

Filter water

Filtering water is a more convenient and less time-consuming process as compared to boiling water

Overall, Filtering water system is a more reliable and powerful option to achieve pure quality and healthy water in less than a minute. It can be chosen after testing the water quality in your area.

Boiled water

Boiling water has health benefits if it is done after the water filtration.

Boiling does not completely purify water; it only disinfects the bacteria by heat and left TDS behind such as lead

Boiling may also become useless if you used unclean hands and utensils. It triggers recontamination especially in tropical areas, where bacteria travel at an amazingly fast speed
